Dojo Kun

The term Dojo Kun is literally translated as “rules of the place where the Way is practiced“.

The Dojo Kun are five principles, rules, dictates that the Karate practitioner must adhere to, both during training in the Dojo and outside of it, fundamental principles that have always characterized the practitioner’s spiritual growth path.

Each rule begins with the word hitotsu, which means first. All rules are understood as the first rule, because none are of secondary importance. Below are the rules and their meaning

一、人格完成に努むること
HITOTSU, JINKAKU KANSEI NI TSUTOMURU KOTO
(Try to perfect the character)

一、誠の道を守ること
HITOTSU, MAKOTO NO MICHI O MAMORU KOTO
(Take the path of sincerity)

一、努力の精神を養うこと
HITOTSU, DORYOKU NO SEISHIN O YASHINAU KOTO
(Tirelessly strengthens the spirit)

一、礼儀を重んずること
HITOTSU, REIGI O OMONZURU KOTO
(Observe impeccable behavior)

一、血気の勇を戒むること
HITOTSU, KEKKI NO YU O IMASHIMURU KOTO
(Refrain from violence and gain self-control)
